Despite being listed as a "lyricist" on Tidal, Kanye only contributed production to the Cudi diss.
Over the weekend, there was a report that Kanye had contributed lyrics to Drake's "Two Birds, One Stone," based on credits found on Tidal. The streaming service cited Kanye as both a "producer" and a "lyricist," the latter of the two categories being particularly interesting to fans due to the Kid Cudi diss in the song .
With all five of the song's "composers" also being credited as "lyricists" on the song, the credits did seem a bit fishy, but nevertheless, the world wanted a definitive answer, which producer Noah "40 Shebib" has now provided in a statement to Genius.
"Me and Kanye produced the track,” said 40, who was also credited as a "lyricist" on Tidal. "I made it from some drums he had given me. Not quite the elaborate story the world is looking for."
So it seems that the answer to the question is simply that Tidal's "lyricist" credits were wrong. Of course, Kanye and 40 were listed as "composers" and given writing credits, as all producers receive. However, this does not make them "lyricists," the same way it would not make sense to list Drake as a "producer" on the song when he only wrote vocal parts.
Drake has received criticism for his lyrical shots at Kid Cudi on the track.
